Raven River
Hello Everyone!
Have not posted for a bit here. Mainly because the rivers are far too high right now due to the runoff.
We saw that Tuesday May 8th looked like it was going to be a beautiful day, and so we decided to test our luck on the Raven. The Raven is a beautiful little river that has handsome brown trout as rewards. It is a very challenging little river; very precise casting is a must due to the abundance of willows. It is challenging to say the least, but wow... the rewards are immense. Very big, and very beautiful brown trout lurking in this river.
When we first got there first thing we saw was how bad the visibility in the river was. It was very dirty and riddled with mud. We saw nothing rise all day, and so we decided to stream. We attached a white zonker and an olive and yellow wooly bugger. We didn't have much luck throughout the first half of the day, but as soon as the clock hit about 3 we had a few hits. We managed to land a nice young brown trout, and a couple other very small browns.
It was great to just get out there. Forget about the daily grind and just unwind in the serenity of the meadows and forests. That's what fishing is all about. For just one day forget about your phone that consumes you, forget about the stresses of your job, forget about how unruly society can be. It's just you, your friends, and nature. Bliss. Never take these days for granted.

April 28th, 2012. Return to the Clearwater
After fishing the Clearwater the previous weekend and having a couple trout nibble our streamers, we decided to head back for another go at that river.
During the six days that we were absent from the river, the area received a few mm's of rain nearly everyday.
This helped the ice shelfs that once lined the banks of this teal blue river melt and darken up the water.
Needless to say, we tossed on the waders and headed upstream hoping the higher we got, the more clear the river would be.
After rounding a few bends and studying each riffle, eddie, and pool we came to the grim realization that our initial predictions of the river clearing up the higher we got were wrong. The river maintained the "green tea" murkiness we were fearful of.
The river was also running 6 to 8 inches higher which changed the dynamics of the runs and pools we were fishing last week. This forced us to look for better holding water. We walked, we walked, and we walked some more. The trip turned more into a day hike rather than a day fishing trip, but we don't mind days like those. We use days like this to explore personally "uncharted" territory in hope of finding some great spots in more remote areas and just to enjoy the natural beauty that is abundant in Alberta.
Fly fishing offers a person more than just the fishing, it puts you more often than not into a beautiful place and gives you an opportunity to enjoy the company you choose to bring. Or if you are fishing alone; you are surrounded only by beautiful landscapes. The stress of the urban jungle melts away, and you realize how beautiful and amazing this world is we live in.
We ended up only catching one small rocky mountain white fish in the 17 km's we walked, but all in all another great day on the river.

Blackstone August 2011
Blackstone August 2011
The latter part of last years Albertan fishing season we took one of our last jaunts up to the Blackstone river. The Blackstone is definitely one of our all time favorites up here in Alberta. Its amazing landscape will leave you breathless and satisfied even if the fish are not biting. Although come end of season it is hard not to leave without a few nice Cutthroats and/or Bull trout. I look forward to fishing up at the Blackstone in these upcomings months! Here are a few pictures to show you just how beautiful it is;
Clearwater April 22nd
Clearwater River April 22nd
It was an absolutely stunning day this Sunday, and wading through the upper banks of the Clearwater River in AB was the perfect way to spend the day. We only caught one Bull trout but it was a real nice one. It was hungry too, had the tail of what looked like a brown trout sticking out of its mouth, and yet it still took the wooly. We didn't have much luck on the surface, but we found a really nice hole and had a couple of hits streaming. We plan on going back before the runoff hinders the visability too much, and hopefully this time we see some trout rising.Follow us on Twitter @FlyFishingAB
